Job Description

Tesla Engineering Limited designs and manufactures conventional and superconducting coils and magnets for use in Medical, Scientific, Semiconductor and other industrial applications.

Our aim is to match our products to the customer’s requirements of performance, price, and delivery. We have been designing and building magnet systems since 1973, and our staff are therefore among the most experienced magnet designers and builders in the world.

As part of our vision for the future we have identified a need for a project to automate the winding of certain coils for Medical applications.  In undertaking this project you will be accountable to the Managing Director and, under his direction, you will need to work out what is required to robotize the winding of some specific coils.  Having done so you will design and specify the system and, through liaison with other parts of the business, you will order the parts and build the system yourself.  This is a cradle to grave project and you will have control from inception to realization.  In order for you to succeed in this project you will need basic knowledge in the areas of CAD, mechanical engineering, software, electronics and electrical engineering.  This project would be suitable as a sandwich year placement for you if you are studying Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or Physics or Robotics.  Equally, this project would suit you if you are looking for a challenge and a chance to use workplace acquired engineering skills which will need to be coupled with good project management skills and an attention to detail which will enable you to drive the project through to completion and successful implementation.

Please note that all information and software disclosed to you, or developed by you, in the course of your employment / internship remain the property of Tesla Engineering Limited.  You may not take any such material off the premises, whether by physical or electronic means, and you must not disclose such information to any third parties, either in the course of your employment or at any time in the future.

Closing date: 9th September 2011
