Job Description

Resident Assistant role at NYU in London

Fixed Term: Monday 3rd January –  Sunday 23rd January 2011

This Resident Assistant position takes place during the first three weeks of January 2011. This position mainly involves looking after a small group of 12 international students visiting from NYU Abu Dhabi (along with another RA, already recruited). You would be living in and providing support in one of our residences and accompanying students on a range of excursions and visits around London. Part of the role may involve assisting our staff with duties in housing, as well as some Orientation work with our Spring semester students, who arrive on the 19th January.

We also have around 80 visiting students from NYU New York staying in the residence at the same time. Although the role does not have specific responsibility for these students, the nature of the position means that RAs may have some responsibility for these students within the residence. We also expect RAs to be contactable by staff on a rota system to provide support within the residence in case of emergencies (for example if a student needs to visit the hospital).

The position runs from Monday 3rd January (checking into the residence the night before) until Sunday 23rd January. The group will have to move out of our housing to a local hotel on Tuesday 18th January due to the arrival of our Spring semester students. Three or more of the last five nights may therefore involve living in a hotel in the Bloomsbury area with the students (in your own room).

The payment is £900 for the duration of the contract, plus accommodation in the residence (and hotel if required) up to and including the night of Saturday 22nd January. The post is full-time, but is not a Monday to Friday 9am – 5.00pm position! Much of the role will involve evening and weekend work.

Finally, there will be at least one day of training in December, most likely during the week beginning 13th December.
