Website Review: Recip.ly

As students we’re pretty laid back, right? We like things to be made easy for us and the easier the better. So, things like cooking recipes where all the different ingredients have to be bought, who can be bothered? It would be much simpler if, from our favourite armchair, we could view a recipe online and then with a simple click of a button all the ingredients are magically ordered and delivered. Imagine no more… new start up Recip.ly is making this a reality.

Recip.ly – An Innovative Twist on Buying Ingredients

In their own words
The Recip.ly team are food fanatics who also love technology. We thought buying ingredients was too difficult online, so we thought we’d do something to help.

Recip.ly is an online tool for bookmarking your favourite recipes and instantly adding the required ingredients to your online shopping basket.

Simply select recipes on your favourite websites and Recip.ly will instantly identify the necessary ingredients and compose your shopping list. Recip.ly helps you purchase your list and also gets it delivered to your door.

And there’s more… they can:

  • Allow you to quickly increase or reduce portions for a recipe and automatically change ingredient quantities
  • Suggest recipes that you may like to cook with leftover ingredients (based on what we’ve noticed you like to cook already)
  • Suggest a good wine that goes with your food, based on your tastes.

Who’s behind it?
The founders are Craig Edmunds and Nick Holzherr. Craig has been a software consultant for many years, leading the teams that build the transactional functionality that powers many of the larger travel industry websites. Nick Holzherr graduated from Aston University with a degree in Business and is a serial entrepreneur.

Why we like it
Every now and again you hear about a business idea that makes you sit up and take notice. Recip.ly certainly had that affect on us. The idea is innovative, simple and has the potential of making the lives of our many student readers much easier – we like that. We’ve also had the pleasure of meeting Nick - a lovely guy who’s full of beans for the idea.

If FreelanceStudents were a dragon, we would ask…
Is there a big enough online market for this idea to really take off?
