Job Description

  • The Project

Crowned with awards from the Ashoka Changemakers and National Geographic Societies, this revolutionary Ecotourism project advocates environmental sustainability through education. Specifically, proceeds from the low impact Ecolodge, located in the heart of the Amazon, fund a rural Technical High School that focuses on relevant curricula in six productive areas (see below) to teach indigenous students how to create local livelihoods that conserve their endangered Amazon homeland.

  • Why the project needs you

Truly intercultural in nature, the school encourages students to interact with guests to help hone their speaking skills and gain confidence and comfort as hosts and guides sharing their aggregate wisdom of the biodiverse and beautiful rainforest they call home. To this end, teachers in each of the productive areas are always needed. Further, as the school, lodge and local communities strive to reach full sustainability in their operations, technology transfer, innovations, and monitoring and evaluation in respect to clean energy, sustainable architecture and agriculture and smart community building, waste management and habitat preservation are highly valued.

  • Role of the volunteer

Educators, activists, environmentalists and English speakers are always needed to help teach in the Rural Technical Schools’ six productive areas:
    1. Help reforest the long exploited Amazon to breathe life back into the “Lungs of the World.”
    2. Develop your inner Doctor Doolittle as you help breed the Animal Husbandry program (from snails to swine!)
    3. Help locate fair trade partners for the young artisans in the Micro-Enterprise sector
    4. Sow the seeds of change in the School’s vast organic gardens that give Sustainable Agriculture a good name.
    5. Teach English to students who are working at the Lodge as Eco-Tourism interns.
    6. Inspire youths to create masterpieces made of trash in the Recycling tract.

The Lodge also seeks a long-term administrative assistant and groups to monitor, evaluate and improve upon their implemented sustainability programs. There are also opportunities in traditional medicine and for health interns (especially maternal health care) at the village’s Health Clinic.
