As you may have noticed, if you’ve been keeping your eye on FreelanceStudents over the past couple of weeks, it’s our 1 year anniversary. It’s our first birthday! It seems like only yesterday when the idea was dreamt up in a South London flat. It’s been a tough 12 months and to celebrate we underwent a re-design and we’ll also be giving away a few prizes. Here are some highlights from the past year…
Year 1 Highlights
1. July 2009. FreelanceStudents is launched with only 2 jobs on the job board and two blog articles; Feeling the crunch? Welcome to FreelanceStudents and 7 Essential Tips for Student freelancers.
2. August 2009. The site is featured on KillerStartups.com generating hundreds of hits. Our site was voted one of the top in the month it was featured and our voting button was actually temporarily blocked by the site… yes, strange.
3. September 2009. By sheer luck we were featured in the Metro in a full page spread in their yearly Education supplement. The national newspaper had picked up on the idea and asked if we’d be keen to be featured… er… yes. The boost was massive!
4. February 2010. We picked up out first ever business prize. Yay! FreelanceStudents was voted a 2010 Smarta 100 Winner. The judging panel included Deborah Meaden.
5. March 2010. FreelanceStudents gets a facelift! We updated the site and released, what we called, v1.
6. May 2010. We pick up our second prize! FreelanceStudents wins Natwest special prize at the Smarta 100 awards. We were not able to attend the ceremony so we were totally surprised, and deeply touched, when Smarta contacted us letting us know that we had picked up an award. FreelanceStudents beat 99 other small companies from across the UK to pick up 1 of only 4 prizes handed out during the evening.
7. June 2010. We pass the 1000 registered students mark!
8. July 2010. Our forward thinking article The Rise of the Social Media Intern gets Twitter fluttering and we receive mentions from as far as the shores of America.
9. July 2010. We refresh the site, giving it a modern Web 2.0 twist and release v2.
Big thanks to our talented students and recent graduates that have helped out during the year! Also thanks to the many developers that got stuck in and brought the idea to life. Finally, thanks to family, friends, and all of our users and readers :-)
