Job Description
TESSA EDWARDS is a new entrant clothing and accessories label and despite its recent conception in early 2010, has already developed a strong brand identity within the high fashion, upper echelon of the retail clothing market. Over the past three seasons, though still being in an early stage of development, TESSA EDWARDS has received extensive coverage during London Fashion Week. This has been consolidated by continued and growing press interest by leading figures in the industry: stylist Nicola Formachetti, photographer Steven Klien and celebrities such as Daphne Guinness, Jessie J and Lady Gaga among others; as well as a presence in numerous and distinguished publications such as Vogue Italia, i-D Magazine, and CNN.
TESSA EDWARDS is able to stand apart to the fashion industry with its unique core identity that permeates into its distinctive aesthetic. Its theory and structure present far more than an exclusive range of high quality and inimitable products. The brand portrays a complete philosophy – the notion of the divine in the female form - an aesthetic principle based on the elevation of self-image. Forming this elevation, TESSA EDWARDS presents a Trinity of three essential components worn interchangeably and thus forming the overall aesthetic.
TESSA EDWARDS is on the threshold of realising itself within the fashion industry both commercially and influentially. To achieve this in the short term, we need to identify production recourses to enable the scaling up of output. Once a supply and manufacture balance is established, we then need to selectively target the high-end retail market and establish a solid presence within it. And once sales volumes are robust, the aim is to expand the range of products as well as the brand’s influence by strategic and creative marketing. In the long run, we would like to open our own stores internationally. To achieve this progression, we are looking for an entrepreneurial individual who is able to assist pushing the brand over this threshold and thus into establishing a strong presence in the luxury retail market.
Most importantly we need someone with an enthusiasm for the brand and its creative objectives. This individual must be self motivated and able to direct their own tasks and goals as well as organising others in the team. Versatility in their role is essential, as well as willingness to problem solve in unfamiliar territory. In a small team we must all be willing and able to perform a variety of tasks rather than the ones we are skilled to do. Furthermore, innovation is key. As a new fashion brand it is important to think progressively to solve problems, and in doing so make a new and interesting paths of progression rather than following the footsteps of others.
As a studio and business manager, daily tasks are extensive: the organisation of studio activities - budgeting and keeping on top of deadlines and agendas; the organisation of marketing activities – arranging campaign shoots and films as well as the fashion week show/presentation; managing production – the sourcing of materials and correspondence with agents; and the managing of sales – communicating between stockists and agents as well as targeting luxury retail outlets to initiate a client relationship. But most of all, through doing these tasks, we need someone who is able to facilitate the progression and expansion of the business and foresee methods of commercial success.
In terms of specific skills, we need someone with an in depth knowledge of the industry but not necessarily formally fashion trained. We need someone who understands the seasonal processes of the industry from the sourcing of fabrics, to sampling, to showing in fashion week, through to selling and production. Using excel is essential as well as being generally numerate. An advanced command of the English language is vital and knowledge of French and/or Italian would be a useful bonus.
