Wellbeing In the City is building a social networking platform that will revolutionise how we think about our Wellbeing, offering busy city people simple choices and connecting them with people and ideas that enable them to live a balanced lifestyle.
We are looking for smart, talented, enthusiastic web developers and software engineers who happily traverse a variety of languages and platforms and want to join a team that is passionate about creating something with meaning.
Front-End Developer
What's involved:
Creating beautiful, usable, elegant and simple web interfaces for our social networking platform, working from design mock-ups and adding a little of your own sparkle. You’ll have an eye for elegant design, attention to detail, a knack for making things simple and a strong focus on creating a compelling experience for the user.
Skills required:
- Bang up-to-date on latest front-end trends and technologies (HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, etc.)
- Ability to create standards-compliant, cross-browser HTML, Javascript and CSS (and know when it’s worth bending the rules with progressive enhancement / graceful degradation)
- Ideally, you’ll have some visual design skills (PhotoShop, Illustrator, Fireworks)
- Although you will be mainly working on front-end code, you would benefit from some experience working with a variety of languages and frameworks (PHP/Zend/WordPress/BuddyPress, Ruby on Rails, Django)
- It’s a great bonus if you’ve done any mobile / tablet work

- You’re a problem-solver and always enjoy a good challenge
- Turning an idea into a web app over a weekend is the kind of challenge you like to take on
- You’re driven by what you observe users doing and saying rather than purely by aesthetics and your own (very good) taste
- You probably collect bookmarks of beautifully designed web sites, smart UI concepts and ideas that you love
- Although you’re confident about the work you produce, you are always thinking of small tweaks and improvements that can be made
- You have a hunger for learning and when you need to, you learn faster than most would believe
- There are always many ways to do things, and if there’s a better way, you’ll find it
- Elegance is important to you, in coding and in designing beautiful user experiences
- You re-use to build, and build for re-use
- You appreciate the value of good tools and frameworks, but aren’t afraid to write HTML and Javascript in Notepad
- You see developing as somewhere between an art, science and engineering
- You can’t think of anything that would give you greater pleasure than to create something meaningful, beautiful and compelling that people will love using every day all over the world
How you'll work:
- You’ll join our small team of passionate, fun-loving, dedicated developers working in our lovely Wellbeing Office in central London – just a few minutes from Angel tube station
- We’re quite flexible – you can largely set your own hours as long as you’re there for the daily scrum and you get things done!
- We’ll play to your strengths – so you could be involved in front-end design, web app development, back-end development, databases, security, user testing – plenty of opportunities to learn and grow at this stage!
