It’s that time of the year when many students and graduates are interviewing and a lucky few will get invited back for an assessment centre in which they’ll have to partake in the dreaded… group exercise [cue horror scream]. The 2010 Graduate and Student Survey is online and we want YOU!
What is The 2010 FreelanceStudents Graduate & Student Survey you ask?
Well, it’s a survey that will reveal how the student and graduate community feel about the current job market, internships and the use of social media in job hunting. It’s a great opportunity to air out your thoughts and also get an insight into how your peers are feeling about these hot topics. We will post the results in an article. It’s going to be an awesome read!
The survey starts today and we’ll be running it for about a month. The more people who fill out the survey the more value we all get out of it, so for the next month or so expect to see one or two gentle reminders!
And there are some great incentives!
Naturally we hope you’ll get involved for the solidarity of the student community, but in case that’s not enough for you, we have some other, pretty fantastic incentives too:
1. Detailed statistics. Anyone who takes the survey will be emailed in-depth results of the survey. You can learn about what’s happening in your geographical location and year group. Non-respondents will not get this information. If you don’t take the survey you’ll still see information here on the site, but it’ll only be the highlights rather than the full report.
2. Awesome prizes. We have prizes. That’s right, fabulous prizes! We’ve put together a nice pack for one lucky winner who’ll be drawn at random. 2 runners up will also get a prize. The winning pack includes:
- An Amazon Kindle eReader. The Amazon Kindle Wi-Fi eReader is arguably the hottest eReader, weighing a mere 250 grams while providing superior contrast compared to any other eReader on the market. The Kindle Wi-Fi comes with a web browser allowing access to the internet and 1.8million free eBooks.
- A pair of Picturehouse cinema tickets. Picturehouse cinemas show a good mix of mainstream and art house films. We highly recommend them and if you’ve got a keen interest in films then make sure you check out the Picturehouse blog too.
The runners up will both receive a pair of Picturehouse cinema tickets.
3. Satisfaction. By completing the survey, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping compile information to help students everywhere, it only takes 5 minutes of your time and the sum of our collective knowledge will be huge!
The survey only takes a few minutes and will be a great resource for all of us – so take it now! All rules and fine print below: Read the rest of this entry »
BranchOut - Using Facebook to Find a Job

Students are great at using Facebook, but often not so great at finding a job. However, with new Facebook job-networking application BranchOut being launched, there may yet be hope for our generation of social-network savvy graduates.
There comes a point in every student or recent graduate’s life where they wish two things: Firstly, that they could stay 21 forever; secondly, that their parents were either extremely rich or extremely well connected. Networking is, for better or worse, an unavoidable reality in the job market. Read the rest of this entry »
