Job Description

Ways With Words is looking for enthusiastic local volunteers to act as stewards for its Festival of Words and Ideas at Dartington Hall, Devon.

This is an opportunity to be involved with one of Britain’s most prestigious literary festivals, and to hear some interesting and inspiring speakers.

No experience is necessary and basic training will be given, however stewards will need to be confident in carrying out the following tasks:

- Checking tickets, clicker-counting visitors and directing people to seats.

- Running around with a roving microphone to allow the audience to ask questions.

- Assisting the front of house manager with preparations for the events. For example allocating seats, tidying the venue, replenishing water, collecting speakers from the green room.

- Being generally cheerful and welcoming with a big smile!

The festival runs from Friday 6th – Sunday 15th July, and stewards will need to be available to volunteer for the equivalent of at least three days.

This is a voluntary position, however Ways With Words is able to pay £3 per day expenses.

Please email for more information and an application form. Two informal ‘coffee mornings’ will be organised for potential stewards to meet the Ways With Words team and to discuss stewarding at the festival.
