NEWS: Working smarter with students

freelancestudents_news_imageWhilst we lay on the sofa yesterday on a lazy Easter weekend we stumbled across an article in the Sunday Times – “Get smart with a student”. The sub header read as “Universities can be a valuable source of ideas – and intelligent free labour”. This clearly caught our attention.

To summarise, the article talks about how students and small businesses working together can bring “benefits to both sides”. We couldn’t agree more and the article is timely. Since launching, our membership has grown to over a 1000 and we’ve successfully connected students with small businesses from across the UK.

At FreelanceStudents we practice what we preach. We have students and recent graduates working here on a flexible basis and helping us drive the business forward, and they have not only proved to be “valuable” and “intelligent”, but also an absolute pleasure to work with.

Picturehouse Giveaway: Win a Pair of Cinema Tickets!

picturehouse_logo_01To celebrate our successful New Year redesign, Picturehouse Cinemas has very kindly offered us 10 pairs of free cinema tickets to give away!

A couple of us here in the team are members of the Picturehouse and we regularly visit both their Clapham and Brixton (better known as the Ritzy) cinemas. Picturehouse are a far cry from the typical hoodie-filled cinemas. Instead they offer a cool, intimate, and relaxed atmosphere (wine and beer can be taken into the screens!) which caters well for their regular audience of film-buffs and trendy types.

The cinemas show a good mix of mainstream and arthouse films. We highly recommend them and if you’ve got a keen interest in films then make sure you check out the Picturehouse blog too.

The competition is open to members of FreelanceStudents only. In order to be in with a chance of winning one of the 10 pairs of free tickets, all you have to do is send us a simple one liner to support@freelancestudents.co.uk on a feature, idea, or improvement you would like to see added to the site. For example:

I would like to see FreelanceStudents add company profiles, so I can learn more about each company before applying“ – easy :-)

Now, there’s one unfortunate caveat. The competition is only open to UK residents, due to shipping costs for international rates.

The competition ends on Wednesday 17th March. The winners will be chosen by random from the various (sensible) submissions. So get sending us your suggestions today to be in with a chance of winning a pair of free tickets!

iTunes Gift Card Giveaway

itunes_giftcard_2It’s competition time again! And this month we’re giving three lucky students the chance to win a £25 Apple iTunes gift card, and who doesn’t love Apple right?

This means you’ll be able to download £25 worth of your favourite hits, podcasts, films and more for free. Oh, and you avoid being hunted by the anti-illegal download whitecoats.

Competition details – ‘Refer a friend’

The competition is open to students and recent graduates. To be in with a chance of winning a £25 iTunes gift card all you have to do is follow the simple steps below:

1. Refer a friend who has a valid UK university email address (e.g. joe.blogs@ucl.ac.uk)
2. Drop us an email at support@freelancestudents.co.uk with the subject title of “Refer a friend” and provide your referral’s full name and university email address
3. Your referral registers with us
4. We contact them to say “Hello!” and when they have responded, you will then be eligible for a prize

The more referrals you provide the more chances you’ll have of winning, as each referral will be counted individually. Easy! The competition end date is 12th March.

Now, there’s one unfortunate caveat. The competition is only open to FreelanceStudents members that are UK residents, due to shipping costs for international rates. Additionally, by entering the competition we reserve the right to publish the name, university, and town of the winners on FreelanceStudents.co.uk. Note we will never publish your full name.

Good luck!
